UPDATE: 11/14/2020

Gospel Family,

As you are well aware there has been a significant spike in COVID-19 cases in our county, Ohio and around our nation. Once again Governor DeWine has put out a plea for everyone to do their part to help get the virus under control. We have seen an increase of sickness within the families of Gospel, two recently tested postive for COVID and several others from different families have some symptoms. One of those who tested positive was a Kid City teacher. The parents of kids who were in their class are currently being notified.

The Pastors at Gospel believe it is vital and essential that the church stays open and to do that we need to take precautions so we can continue to gather. The church was made to be together and sometimes that means sacrificing some comfort to make it happen.

Sunday, when you enter the building, please wear a mask until you reach your seat; just like you would do when you go into a store or restaurant. Once you have reached your seat you can then remove it; and please do the same when you leave. Also stop by the hand sanitizer and get a squirt or two or ten!

If you are one who cannot wear a mask because of a medical reason or disability, we understand, and we will not turn you away.

I understand that there are varying views on masks and whether they work or not. I understand that this email will cause frustration and disappointment in some but comfort and peace of mind for others. Please know we are striving to shepherd every person at Gospel and we are asking everyone to consider others before self. We do not gather on Sundays to focus on the government, party or policy. We do not come together to discuss the rights and wrongs of COVID-19 procedures. We would disagree if we tried to unify around those other things. Our focus is on Christ, our unity is in Christ. We come together to celebrate the resurrection of Christ, our new life and to encourage each other on in the faith; and we will keep doing just that!

Personally I believe its worth the sacrifice of a mask on my face to be with you and I hope you feel the same.

May we love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor (Romans 12:10).

May we rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer. Contribute to the needs of the saints and seek to show hospitality (Romans 12:12-13).

May we be a people who show hospitality to one another without grumbling (1 Peter 4:9).

May we keep our conduct among the Gentiles honorable (1 Peter 2:12).

May we have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind (1 Peter 3:8).

May we honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor (1 Peter 2:17).

Following Jesus Alongside of You.

Our Plan for Reopening gospel

We are striving for a safe & cautious gathering on May 31 and we can't wait to see all of you, as you are able & feel comfortable attending. If you have any questions about what you are reading, please feel free to reach out to any of the pastors. We love our Gospel family & have the health of safety of all of you in mind as we have made these decisions.

PHASE 1 - Let’s strive to have the mind of Christ, “in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.” Philippians 2:3-4

ESTIMATED START DATE: May 31st at 10:30am

Here’s Our Plan:

  •  Live streaming of worship services will continue for those choosing to stay home.
  • Those with health issues or stages of life that make them vulnerable are encouraged to join via livestream.
  • Per the Ohio Stay Safe guidelines, we are limiting attendance to 50% Worship capacity this means we have 126 seats available.
  • Seating rows are 6 feet apart. We will leave 3 empty chairs between households – i.e. sit only with those who rode in the car with you. Please click HERE to let us know you are coming & how many seats you will need.
  • No nursery or children’s programs will take place. Children will remain with their parents at all times. [Please know parents that our service will be shorter than normal to accommodate kids being in the service.]
  • No coffee or drinking fountains being available.
  • No paper worship guides will be available. Please check your email or download the new Gospel Church App.
  • New offering boxes are hanging on the back walls as you leave the auditorium, as no baskets will be passed. You can also continue to give online or mail your donation to PO Box 14, Greenville, OH 45331.
  • Entrance doors will remain open so door handles do not need to be touched.
  • Auditorium doors will also remain open.
  • To help with physical distancing, please do not exit until you are dismissed by row following the service.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available in multiple places for use at all times.
  • Cleaning of all high touch surfaces will be performed after services.

What we are asking everyone to do:

We encourage everyone to adopt a heart of humility considering the needs of others more important than our own. Recognize that many are going through this trial in different ways with different sensitivities. Let’s do 1 Corinthians 10:24, “Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor.”

  • Please arrive 10-15 minutes early to get familiar with our new seating arrangement.
  • Follow the usher to find a place to maximize seating and social distancing.

Please use these safety measures:

  • Before you attend check your temperature and stay home if you have a temp of 100.3 or higher.
  • Do not congregate in the foyer, please leave it open for people to enter and exit.
  • Remain at least 6 feet apart from those who are not your family or arriving in the same care as you..
  • Don’t hug, shake hands, high five, body slam, ride piggy-back, etc.
  • Leave 3 empty chairs between you and the next person of a different household.
  • Sit only with those who rode in the car with you.
  • Monitor your children to keep them with you and help them keep social distancing.
  • Have conversations within seating rows. Keep aisle-ways, hallways and foyer clear.
  • Please use good hygiene before, during, and after attendance.
  • Keep your hands away from your face.
  • Cough and sneeze into a tissue or the bend of your arm.
  • Consider using a face mask while entering and leaving the worship center.

On June 7th we will begin our Summer season of Life-Groups and Gospel Student Ministry with the following guidelines:

  • Physical distancing will still be expected.
  • Groups will meet spread out in rooms and at tables.
  • Both Life Groups and Gospel Student Ministry are encouraged to meet outdoors when weather permits.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available in multiple places for use at all times.
  • Cleaning of all high touch surfaces will be done after meetings.
  • Doors and windows will be open for air-flow.
  • Gospel Student Ministry will be spread out in the Auditorium and, per the Ohio Stay Safe guidelines, will meet in small groups with a maximum of 9 students to 1 adult.

Pastors Statement on the coronavirus

UPDATED 3/18/2020

Gospel Family,

We are in the midst of events that we have never seen before, but God is in control; He is faithful and good! As we have watched and experienced everything in our culture come to a halt, we cannot miss the opportunity that God is giving us to be still and know Him (Psalm 46:10). School is happening from home, extra curricular activities have been canceled, sporting events have been postponed, companies are sending home their employees, we struggle to get the essentials and we can’t even eat out; but it is all good and for our good (Romans 8:28), for those who love God more than all these things. If anything, life has been stripped of some comforts and conveniences, yet we have all we need.

With the most recent updates about Covid-19 from President Trump and Governor DeWine and the first positive test result in Darke County; we want to honor the plea for social distancing, we want to respect and love each other and our community. The Pastors at Gospel unanimously believe the best way to do that is to cancel the following for the rest of March. We will then re-evaluate the situation as we approach April; but in all reality it seems the coronavirus is just getting started, yet we are not without Hope!

-Sunday morning worship gathering

-Sunday evening prayer service

-Sunday evening Student Ministry

-Wednesday AWANA Clubs

-Weekly Life Groups

We will begin to meet online, on Sunday March 22 at 10:30am via a Facebook Live Service. What will that look like? Log on to Facebook and together we will dive into James Chapter 1 for about 20 minutes. Then we will encourage you to take time for Family Worship. We will provide some questions that will help your family talk about the text. We will also encourage you to take time to pray. You will see more about this in our Friday email. (You can sign up here.)

So all physical gatherings and ministries at Gospel have been stopped, and we will miss meeting together as the Church, but that does not mean we stop caring for each other. If anything the events that are taking place should drive us to greater devotion to the Word, heighten our concern for each other, and compel us to pray more deeply for each other. So although we cannot meet together, we can:

- text each other

- call and read Scripture together

- call and pray together

- call and spur each other on to greater faith

Together we entrust our souls to our faithful Creator while doing good. May we be humble and helpful in this season, and ever more dependent on Christ our King; always casting our cares on Jesus, because He cares for us.

If you or your family need anything, please reach out to the Pastors; we are here to help.

After you finish reading this, I want you to reach out to someone from Gospel and check on them....and then do it again every couple of days.

Following Jesus Together,
